Stop the Merger Update

Since it was first announced in October of 2022, our coalition of UFCW local unions have opposed the proposed mega-merger of Kroger and Albertsons. That opposition helped lead to three lawsuits (one by the Federal Trade Commission and two more by the Attorneys General of Washington and Colorado) whose trials were completed in September and October of 2024. There has not yet been any decision in any of the three cases. However, we do anticipate a decision could come any day now, and the Judge in the Seattle, WA case has indicated plans to issue a decision on Tuesday, December 10, at 1:30 PM Pacific Time. Our Stop the Merger coalition of UFCW locals 7, 324, 400, 770, 1564 and 3000 will be closely monitoring these developments and plan to immediately respond to any decision when it is announced. We continue to believe that all three cases against the proposed merger are very strong and will likely prevail.
